Digital geologic mapping is the process by which geological features are observed, analyzed, and recorded in the field and displayed in real-time on a computer or personal digital assistant ().The primary function of this emerging technology is to produce spatially referenced geologic maps that can be utilized and updated while conducting field work.

The geologic map is used in much the same way, only instead of capturing surface features such as cities and roads, the goal is to describe the subsurface. One of the most common uses for geologic maps is by construction firms, as they need to look for potential hazards such as faults before building buildings or roads. Geologic maps are also often confused with shaded-relief or topographic maps, which show hills, valleys, roads, and other features on the Earth’s surface. Geologic maps, however, use a combination of colors, lines, and symbols to depict the composition, distribution, and relationships of rocks and sediments at and near the Earth’s surface.

This lesson explores the features of topographic and geologic maps. Students will learn how different maps and how they are used. Throughout the lesson, students will achieve a number of objectives. Define Geologic mapping terms, list rules of topographic maps. They will learn about contour maps and explain a geologic map. the Arabian Peninsula, sedimentary geology of Saudi Arabia”, U.S. Geol. Survey Prof. Paper, D, D p. Geophysical surveys What is Geophysics. Geophysics is the study of the Earth using quantitative physical methods, principally by measuring the gravitational, magnetic, electrical, and seismic properties of the Earth’s surface and interior.

Published by Saudi Geological Survey / Global Mapping A two volume boxed set: The first part outlines the geologic evolution of Saudi Arabia and explores the connections between geology and landscape (hardback book, pages).

The second is a boxed set of 9 paperback booklets covering a number of geologic excursions and GeoNotes - see Contents (below) for details. Book designed and maps. This workbook is designed to help readers who have no previous training in map interpretation learn how to prepare, read, and interpret geologic maps.

The discussion of the types of geologic features found on geologic maps is followed by well-developed exercises based on a set of full- color geologic maps. Reorganizes material, with the inclusion of many new maps and new exercises. Saudi Geological Maps.

The Wadi as Sirhan quadrangle lies in the northwestern pan of Saudi Arabia on the border with Jordan.

Groundwater quality monitoring is one of the most important aspects in groundwater studies in arid environments particularly in developing countries, like Saudi Arabia, due to the fast population growth and the expansion of irrigated agriculture and industrial uses.

Groundwater samples have been collected from eight locations in Al-Ula in Saudi Arabia during June and January Cited by: Renowned expert Roy E. Hunt discusses preliminary study to predict geologic conditions, applying information from geologic and topographic maps as well as remotely sensed imagery, proper test boring procedures, the various geophysical methods and when each is appropriate, and a variety of methods for determining materials' engineering.
